Join Future Harvest at Harden Family Farms in Westminster Maryland this June for an afternoon with and Sharon & Dave Harden. We'll tour their operation and learn the decision-making processes behind infrastructure investments and product offerings. We'll close with refreshments, heavy appetizers, and an informal Q&A.

Harden Family Farms is a small but growing USDA-certified organic regenerative farm in Westminster, Maryland. The farm sits on 22 acres of rolling farmland in Carroll County and has been undergoing an intentional transition toward regenerative and community-focused agriculture.

Participants will see and discuss several aspects of the operation, including:

  • USDA-certified organic production with a focus on soil health and regenerative practices
  • Biochar soil amendments and organic fertility strategies using mushroom compost and other inputs
  • High-tunnel production systems used for diversified vegetables, herbs, and flowers
  • Small-scale value-added production, including teas, dried herbs, and farm-crafted products made from farm ingredients
  • Integrated livestock systems, including laying hens and livestock guardian dogs
  • Pollinator-friendly plantings and herb production
  • Direct-to-consumer marketing, including two farmers markets, a farm stand, and on-farm events
  • Farm diversification, including a historic bank barn renovated for farm retail and artisan production

Beyond the production practices themselves, Harden Family Farms places a strong emphasis on community engagement and local food access. The farm regularly donates produce to organizations such as the Westminster Rescue Mission and the Maryland Food Hub, and hosts seasonal farm gatherings that bring together local farmers, artisans, and families. Building a resilient local food community is central to what Harden Family Farms does.
