Join the Million Acre Challenge and University of Maryland Extension for a soil health field day at UMES Research and Education Farm.
The first half of the workshop will feature in-field soil health assessments, using the Maryland Soil Health Card, comparing minimally disturbed land (soy field), highly disturbed (vegetable fields) and permanent beds. Demos may include: double infiltration rings, penetrometer and wire flags for compaction, soil temperature on covered/canopy vs bare ground, slake test, root boxes and/or cover crop buckets.
During the second half of the workshop we will welcome Thomas Fazio, Compost Manager of Eco City Farms, for a presentation on core principals of composting and a deep dive into two systems of different scales.
