Event Description:

Join Rob and Mo Moutoux for a farm tour and discussion of Moutoux Orchard's history and evolution - and their 14+ years experience offering a year-round, full-diet CSA program in Loudoun County, Virginia.  In 2011, this third generation family farm business shifted from a production orchard to the diversified operation you'll see at the event. The Moutoux's engaging, on-farm pickup experience, product diversity, social media engagement, and true community has been featured in The Atlantic, Northern Virginia Magazine, The Washington Post and more, attracting customers all the way from DC and the metro area.

We'll tour of the farm and its enterprises that provide grass-based dairy, vegetables, fruit, and pastured-raised beef, pork, chicken and eggs to the CSA. Mo and Rob will share how their vision came to fruition and how they operate today, now parents and managing staff.

Lunch will be provided by Between the Hills Events & Catering courtesy of our friends at Loudoun Economic Development, who will also speak about initiatives and support they offer farms in the area.

About the Farm:

The Moutoux mission is to feed wholesome and nutrient-dense farm foods to our vibrant and healthy community of members. Good food comes from good soil. They work hard to foster minerally-rich and microbially active soil that is the foundation of good health in plants, animals, and people.

Established in the early 1950's in Vienna VA, Rob and Mo have gratitude to John and Katherine Moutoux starting the business, and to Charles and Sue Moutoux running the business for many years and remaining active today. Around 2008, Rob started diversifying the operation with various additions over several years - vegetables, laying hens, grains, lambs. In 2008, they dropped out conventional pesticide program in the orchard, and in 2009 they operated their first CSA program, growing vegetables for about 50 families. In 2011, Rob and Mo launched what is now the current whole-diet, year round CSA after adding dairy cows, pigs, and broiler chickens.

Mo (Maureen) really loves growing delicious vegetables and tending to baby animals, and Rob really loves growing cover crops and moving animals to new grass.
