Join Future Harvest at Potomac Vegetable Farms' Vienna location for an in-depth field day with farmer/founder Hiu Newcomb on the inner mechanics of running a prolific vegetable CSA operation while building a powerful workplace and customer community.

About the Farm

Potomac Vegetable Farm has been growing and selling delicious and nutritious vegetables for over 50 years. They steward their land using organic practices, forgoing certification, and calling themselves Ecoganic. As stewards of the land, their job is to make this land better than they found it. They make our own rich compost at their Purcellville location, and apply rock powders, natural minerals and sea products to ensure that their food is nutrient dense. They use winter cover crops and summer green manure crops religiously to keep their soil microbes happy and healthy. They sell all of their produce through our two roadside stands, their CSA, and at the farmers markets they attend. Read a full history of the farm here.

About the Farmer

Hiu Newcomb, born in 1935, lives and works on the farm year round. She takes care of the off-beat varieties of vegetables that we grow at the Vienna farm, in addition to dealing with the many details involved with running a small business on a small budget. A few background facts: Chinese-American, grew up in Hawaii, went to Oberlin College and studied piano, married Tony… Some people find her intimidating, but she is actually the most open-minded and inspiring person on the farm management team. Read more about Hiu and the history of the farm here.

Meal

After the farm tour, we'll share some drinks and snacks together.
