Join the Million Acre Challenge and University of Maryland Extension for a soil health and buffer establishment field day at UMES Research and Education Farm.
This first half of the workshop will feature in-field soil health demonstrations comparing minimally disturbed land (soy field), highly disturbed (vegetable fields) and permanent beds. Demos may include: double infiltration rings, penetrometer and wire flags for compaction, soil temperature on covered/canopy vs bare ground, slake test, tabletop erosion model, root boxes and/or cover crop buckets.
During the second half of the day, we will welcome a panel discussion on hedgerow and buffer establishment and maintenance with speakers Liz Warren, Delmarva Poultry Association, Julie Devers,NRCS, and Henriette den Ouden, UMES Extension, discuss . This discussion will focus on soil health, co-benefits of edge-of-field practices, and funding opportunities.
