One day, three farmers AND a legal expert! Join us for an extra special learning event showcasing how three very different Maryland farms have successfully incorporated agritourism into their operations. We'll start with ice cream and end with a fireside chat in a sought-after HIPCAMP location.
Prigel Creamery
Mandy Castillo of Prigel Creamery (Bellevale Farm) will share about this 5th generation family farm's evolution since going organic in 2008. The farm produces nutrient dense dairy foods from 150 cows that graze on grass grown from organically balanced soils. More recently, the family began offering immersive, hands-on educational experiences for children to understand and appreciate farms and these practices through after school Farm Clubs and tailored Field Trips.
Belvedere Farm
Growing since 1996, Beth Harlan has been sharing the joy and magic of flowers through CSA subscriptions, at farmers markets and their farm stand. Throughout the year they offer a variety of classes like flower arranging, wreath-making, and painting workshops. Belvedere Farm has become a major destination for photographers who rent flower patches for photo shoots.
Maple Grove Farm
Maple Grove farm is a twenty acre preserved livestock and hay farm in Harford County, Maryland. Home to Katahdin sheep and Edwin Remsberg, a longtime member of the Future Harvest family and internationally renowned photographer specializing in images that celebrate People, Agriculture, and Food. Edwin was an early adopter of Hipcamp, the Airbnb for camping that offers access to unique, private, and less crowded outdoor destinations and provides a way for farmers to monetize unused open land, farm acreage, or ranches to generate passive income.
The event will begin at promptly at 4:00pm with ice cream and Mandy Castillo at Prigel Creamery in Glen Arm, MD. There, we will learn about Beth Harlan's farm: Belvedere Farm. At 5:30pm, participants will then travel to Maple Grove Farm in Fallston where we will explore the unique lodging and amenities offered at Maple Grove Farm. We'll wrap up with a fireside chat and legal questions about agritourism sites and revenue streams with Megan Todd of the University of Maryland Agricultural Law Education Initiative.
